About the RTI Act, 2005

The Right to Information (RTI) Act, 2005, enacted by the Parliament of India, is a landmark legislative framework designed to empower citizens by securing access to information under the control of public authorities. Replacing the former Freedom of Information Act, 2002, the RTI Act is a vital tool for making democracy work for the people in a real and meaningful sense.

Under the provisions of this Act, any citizen of India has the right to request information from a "public authority" (any body of the Government or instrumentality of the State).

Key provisions of the Act include:

Time-Bound Responses: Public authorities are required to reply to standard information requests expeditiously, and no later than 30 days from the receipt of the application.
Urgent Matters: In cases where the requested information concerns the life and liberty of a person, the information must be provided within 48 hours.
Proactive Disclosure (Suo Motu): The Act mandates that every public authority computerize its records for wide dissemination. Furthermore, institutions must proactively publish specific categories of information so that citizens have to make minimum recourse to the formal RTI application process.

Citizens seeking information under the RTI Act, 2005, pertaining to Marwari College, Ranchi, may submit their applications in writing (along with the prescribed fee) to our designated Public Information Officer (PIO).

Mandatory Application Fee: Please note that a postal order of Rs. 10/-, drawn in favor of the Principal, Marwari College, Ranchi, must be attached to your application. RTI applications submitted without this prescribed fee will not be accepted or processed.
